Ear, nose, septum, nipple, navel, surface piercing :

  • These piercings will take an average of 4-8 weeks to heal, providing you take proper care of them.
  • Never touch your healing piercing with your fingers.
  • Use Protex GENTLE Anti-bacterial soap ONLY.
  • Do NOT use surgical spirits, other soap, Dettol, Savlon, salt water, Peroxide or Mecurachrome on your piercing.
  • WASH your hands before cleaning your piercing!
  • Run a wet ear bud over the Protex Gentle, remove any scab that may have formed, then turn the jewellery with an earbud.
  • Rinse with clean water.
  • Dry gently with a clean tissue.
  • Zinc and Iron tablets will help speed up the healing process.
Tongue piercing:
  • This piercing should take an average of 1-2 weeks to heal.
  • Use Listerine Original after everything you eat and drink, especially dairy products.
  • It may be diluted with a little water if you find it too strong.
  • Swelling- depending on each person it may swell up to 4 days maximum. If are allowed to, take an anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling.
  • Discomfort- if you are allowed to, you may take a pain killer as required.
  • DO NOT play with your tongue during the healing process.
  • If you are a smoker, we recommend you reduce the amount of cigarettes you smoke to a minimum while your piercing is healing.
  • Jewellery change- we recommend you down size the jewellery after 2-3 weeks, so as to avoid cracking and chipping your teeth. A shorter bar bell will also be a lot more comfortable.
  • Zinc and iron tablets will help speed up the healing process.
Labret, lip, Monroe piercing:
  • These piercings should take an average of 4-6 weeks to heal.
  • DO NOT use any solvents, surgical spirits, Dettol, salt.
  • The inner lip must be rinsed with Listerine Original at least 3 times daily. It may be diluted with a little water if you find it too strong.
  • The outer lip must be cleaned with Protex Gentle 3 times per day.
  • Run a wet ear bud over the Protex and clean around the skin and jewellery.
  • Rinse the area well with clean water, and use a clean tissue to dry the area.
  • Avoid make-up, shaving creams, tooth paste, moisturisers, facial cleansers getting in contact with the piercing while it is healing.
  • Do not touch or play with the piercing while it is healing.
Ear and other stretching:
  • Any stretching should only be done to a completely healed piercing.
  • To allow for easy stretching, it helps if you move your jewellery around for a few days in advance.
  • We recommend you only up 1 size at a time, so as to avoid tearing of the skin. However, this may occur.
  • Treat your stretched piercing as though it were a fresh piercing (as above- navel piercing, tongue piercing or lip piercing) until it is completely healed.
  • All jewellery used for stretching should be smooth, sterile and preferably titanium or surgical steel.
Ear incision:
  • Doing an incision in order to put in large ear plugs is an option.
  • The down side of doing this is that you will not be able to down size your jewellery, and may find it could be a lot bigger than you anticipated in the long run.
  • After care for such a modification is as above (ear piercing) but recommend you take extra care to make sure it heals as fast as possible.
Genital piercing:
We do not do any kind of genital piercing at our studio, but can offer you advise and recommended after care instructions. Please send us an e mail for questions.

N.B. The use of narcotic substances will cause possible infection while your piercing is healing. And we do not recommend it at all!
